Standup Comedy in Hong Kong

Thank you to Jami Gong of Take Out Comedy Shop in Soho, Hong Kong. I had a grand time performing in this part of the world. Go communism! And go capitalism! It’s inspiring what Jami has done – putting up the first real comedy club in China and nurturing local talent – very similar to what Allan and I are doing back here in Manila with our comedy cartel. We just need to find a home for our comics here, a permanent venue for our performances that is impenetrable to ventriloquists and karaoke singers. Too bad the Comfort Room, the first real comedy club in Makati that featured real standup and improv, closed down a few years ago. But with determination, patience, and really low rent, we too can put up another comedy club out here. It just needs to be viable. Hey, how much is rent in Tondo?

Good luck to Chris Musni, one of the new comics I met in Hong Kong. He’s only been at it for 4 months but he’s very promising and not to mention half Filipino – his Dad. Jami recorded my set on video, I’ll be posting it up as soon as I can capture it onto my computer (I should get an HDD camera). Hopefully, real soon we can send our Filipino comics out to HK for the comedy festival just to break the stereotype that we only export domestic helpers and bands. Thanks again to Jami and to everyone who watched that night!
