27 Dresses

“27 Dresses” should’ve been called “27 Cliches” because this movie is full of them. Oh let’s see, these are just some of the ones that I remember but there are probably a lot more that I blocked out of my memory:

1. Juggling two parties where the girl has to keep changing outfits and eventually makes a mistake by leaving on something from the other party
2. The girl leaves something with her name and number that the guy finds so they can meet again
3. The girl is secretly in love with her boss but the boss is clueless
4. She says I love you to the boss when he can’t hear it
5. The guy who she’s more compatible with but hasn’t realized it does something cute like write all over her organizer
6. The boss falls for the sister or best friend of the girl
7. The private fashion show montage where the girl does cute silly faces in “outrageous” outfits while the guy takes photos
8. A road trip where the couple gets stranded in the middle of nowhere
9. The intoxicated guy and girl singing their hearts out in a bar and everyone sings along while waiting for the couple to finally make out
10. They finally make out but the next day everything’s awkward
11. The girl gets upset with the guy because he failed to tell her what he really does for a living (in other movies he would be a prince)
12. The girl finally realizes that she loves the other guy and so she confesses it in a public place to embarrass herself and the guy

Despite its predictability, the movie has its funny moments especially when Heigl finally decides to expose her sister for what she truly is. I would still watch this movie but only with my fiancée, which was the only reason I watched it in the first place. I know movies are not supposed to always be realistic but I just expected a bit more from the writer who also wrote the screenplay for “The Devil Wears Prada”. The redeeming factor of this flick is Heigl, who is still eye candy to most with or without the scrubs. Watch this movie but lower your expectation.
