The Truth About Funny Men
We’ve heard women say a thousand times that they love a man who has a great sense of humor. As a professional comic, I can tell you that there is a fine print that they don’t advertise: you also need to have decent income, some looks, possibly a vehicle that doesn’t start with “stainless”, and your own crib that’s not attached to your parents’. Being funny is definitely a plus, but like a single card in black jack, it can’t stand on its own. You need other qualities to complement it, just like how Lebron is still looking for his supporting cast that will earn him a ring.
That being said, humor is probably one of the most disarming weapons a guy can use to gain some sex appeal with women. At the risk of being a chauvinist, I don’t think it quite works for women trying to attract men. I just don’t hear too many guys say, “Damn! That bitch was hilarious, I want a piece of her.” Our equipment just doesn’t work that way. For us, looks still trump a girl’s ability to tell a joke. A girl who can sing or dance on the other hand is a completely different story. I’ve seen average looking girls turn into goddesses as soon as they grab that microphone and croon a love song.
The reason humor works so well is it eases the tension of the situation. We all know what’s going on – the guy is trying to get the girl. That puts pressure on both sides. The guy has to have game and the girl puts her guard up and tries to dissect the intention behind his every move. A funny guy knows how to diffuse this apprehensiveness because he can make “fun” of the whole situation. To a funny guy, getting rejected just seems like an opportunity for a punch line. If the girl says no, he can just make a witty quip and laugh it off. This piques the girl’s interest because she begins to wonder why the guy is so cool with the brush off. It also makes the guy feel better about himself by saving himself from embarrassment.
So if you’re a single guy, try sharpening your wit. This doesn’t mean going overboard and telling bar room jokes all the time. It just means making light of things. It will be a nice ace in your pocket as long as you don’t do the hacky “I’m trisexual because I’ll try anything sexual” joke.
